    If the Mars atmosphere consists substantially of CO2, then plants could possibly be used to generate oxygen. Stromatolites would possibly be best as they created the oxygen that is part of Earth’s atmosphere. Search for “stromatolites at Hamlin Bay”.
    Of course, we may eventually discover that the Martians came to earth many ages ago as their home planet began to die as it gradually lost its atmosphere to space, and ‘they’ are now ‘we’.
