    The answer to the question of why some of the buildings remained standing and others collapsed is NOT that each of them was hit by an earthquake wave of different intensity and character. Non destructive buildings were built in accordance to science and engineering rules. Others were built in defiance of science and engineering rules.
    Structures that respect science survived and those that challenged science have been demolished. While the first choice kept people alive, the other invited death.
